Ge hua aqueous extract can agonize the alcohol dehydrogenase activity and reduce the concentration of ethanol and can have protective effect on alcohol-induced liver cell damage.
Ge hua active ingredients can improve alcohol metabolism and liver function and can improve the gastrointestinal disorders and organ dysfunction caused by alcohol. Researchers at the University of Fukuoka, Japan, separated from the ge hua 13 kinds of isoflavones, and 3 kinds of saponin, and have determined their chemical structures. In experiments on human cells, they found that one of these saponins has a strong hepatoprotective effect, and the isoflavones can eliminate reactive oxygen.

The redox effect of isoflavones and it can accelerate the oxidation of alcohol, so that the ethanol loses its toxicity. It can shrink and protect the gastrointestinal mucosa and slow down the absorption of alcohol, preventing large amount of alcohol getting quickly into the bloodstream.
The chemical ingredients saponins and isoflavones coordinating with the immune system and the endocrine system, can improve the metabolism of alcohol-induced abnormalities of metabolism, and can prevent the hangover effect

葛花中含有的皂角苷和異黃酮分別在免疫系統和內分泌系統發揮協調作用，它們共同作用可以改善酒精引起的新陳代謝異常，從而發生解酒醒酒作用。
