Reticuloendothelial system refers to the phagocytic (cell ingesting) system of the body, including the fixed macrophages of tissues, liver and spleen.

Macrophages are large scavenger cells, common in connective tissue and certain body organs, like liver and pleen, where it engulfs and destroys bacteria, and other foreign debris.
