Clinical application：:

臨床應用﹕

For treatment of:
  1. Swelling of throat due to infection. For mild cases, use decoction of this herb to rinse the mouth. In more serious cases add xuan shem, ban lan gen, she gan to enhance the efficacy.
  2. Swelling of gum:
  3. Cough due to infection of lungs.
  4. Hepatitis due to viral infection.
  5. Hepatitis B surface Antigent carriers but do not have symptoms
  6. Arrhythmia
  7. Cervical erosion
  8. Warts of palms of the feet: use shan dou gen,ban lan gen 60 g each. Add water 3000 c.c. Bring to boil for 10 minutes. Cool to bath water temperature. Soak feet for 30 minutes, once a day. For larger once use moxibustion for 10 minutes each time. Treated 54 patients. The smallest amount of warts on the feet is 8 and largest number is 27. Healed: 43. Ineffective: 11. The healed patients used 3 to 9 doses.【13】

  1. 治病毒性肝炎 【1】：
  2. 用於熱毒蘊結，咽喉腫痛。 輕者可單用本品，水煎服或含嗽；重者須配玄 參，板藍根，射 干等藥，以增強療效。
  3. 用於牙齦腫痛。 可單用煎湯嗽口，或與石膏，黃連，升麻，牡丹皮等同用。
  4. 肺熱咳嗽:
  5. 癰腫瘡毒等症。
  6. 子宮頸糜爛
  7. 治脚底疣：用山豆根，板藍根 各60克。加水3公升。煮沸30分鐘。待稍凉時泡脚半小時。每日一次。對較大的疣體，加艾灸，每次10分鐘。共治療54例。（脚底疣數最少5個。最多27個）。治愈43例。無效11例。治愈病例用藥3～9剤。【13】
     
  8. 用於鉤端螺旋體病
  9. 早期肺癌，喉癌，
  10. 治痔瘡：取北山豆根洗净濕潤30分鐘。加水500毫升。煮沸30分鐘。過滤。用纱布浸滤液，趁熱（60 度）敷在痔處。保持30分鐘。治30例。均受到良好消炎止痛效果。【15】
  11. 治膀胱癌腫：
  12. 治急性扁桃腺炎:
     
  13. 近年用於鉤端螺旋體病及早期肺癌，喉癌，膀胱癌等，均有一定的療效。
     
  14. 用治鉤端螺旋體病多與大青葉，甘草合用；
     
  15. 用治癌症，常與白花蛇舌草，魚腥草配伍。

Daly Dosage:

每日用量﹕

For decoction: 6 - 10 g. For external application: use appropriate amount.

作煎剤，内服： 6～10 克。外用：適量。

Modern Research:

現代研究﹕

in lab test on rats, it showed shan dou gen could lower AST, total protein,  albumin, and cholesterol. [5]

Toxicity & Cautions:

毒素與禁忌﹕

This herb is very cold and very bitter. It can cause over excitement of the vegetative nervous system. Over dose can cause disorder of the digestive system and can cause nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, stomachache, diarrhea, tightness in chest area, and palpitation.

Use with care in cases of pixu (spleen deficient)

山豆根大苦大寒，能使植物神經過度興奮，過量服 用能引起胃腸功能紊亂，易引起悪心，嘔吐，纳差，腹痛，腹瀉，胸悶，心悸等副作用，故用量不宜過大。

脾虛者慎用。
