 tryptophan (tryptophane) 色胺酸

  by: Joe Hing Kwok Chu

Tryptophan: is an essential amino acid, C11H12N2O2, formed from proteins during digestion by the action of proteolytic enzymes (an enzyme for digesting protein). It is necessary for normal growth and development and is the precursor of several substances, including serotonin and niacin.

If tryptophan is added to animal feed, it can cause health issues for the animal because after tryptophan is broken down by bacteria and yield  indol, an extremely bad smelling substance.
