Medical functions:

藥理﹕

1.Diuretic effect: in non-renal type of edema, during recuperating period, the patients were given 50 g of dong gua pi decoction and drank 1000 ml of water. Within 2 hours, the amount of urine was twice the amount of control group. But, during the period after giving the herb, the urine excretion was less than that of control group. [1] [2].

2. Effect on blood sugar: after giving 250mg/kg achohol extract to lab rats, it did not show any blood lowering effect. [3]

1. 利尿作用：非腎性水腫恢復期患者內服冬瓜皮50克之煎劑，並飲水1000ml. 2 小時內尿量增加2倍。給藥2～4小時之間，尿量卻較對照組減少。【1】【2】
2. 對血糖影響：給大鼠灌服冬瓜乙醇提取物250mg/kg 對大鼠血糖負荷無降低作用。【3】

Actions & Indications:

主治 ﹕

利尿消腫。用於水腫脹滿，小便不利，暑熱口渴，小便短赤。

常配合茯苓皮，澤瀉，豬苓等藥同用。

Dosage:

用量﹕

In decoction for oral consumption: 1 to 30 g. External use: use appropriate amount.

内服，煎湯：1～30 克。

Samples of formulae:
處方舉例﹕

For heat stroke and/or heat with delirium: use 50 g of dong gua (wax gourd) with skin make into decoction. Take orally in separate dosage. To be effective, take large amount. Also use bai hu tang with added ingredient or also use qing gong tang. 【4】

Emphysema: dong gua pi, fresh yu xing cao, fresh roots of yi yi ren, lu gen 30 g each. Make into decoction. One dosage per day, make into 2 servings. Treated 36 cases. All healed.【6】

暑濕高温昏迷：冬瓜50克連皮煎湯。分數次服。能请暑利尿。大量服用才有效。多配白虎湯加味，或清宫湯加减。【4】

肺氣腫：冬瓜皮，鲜魚腥草，鲜薏苡仁根，蘆根各30克。煎湯。每日一剂。分二次服。治疗36例。均治愈。【6】

毒素與禁忌﹕

Do not use if the edema is caused by malnutrition.

因營養不良而致之虛腫慎用。
