1. Central nervous system: brain and spinal cord.
    

2. Peripheral nerves: all the other nerves. Causes of nerve peripheral neuropathy, include:
   
   * sensory nerves: sensory, such as heat, pain or touch
   * motor nerves: control muscle movement
   * Automatic nerves: control of autonomic functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, digestion and bladder function
    

   
   Causes of peripheral neuropathy : nerve damage. Causes of nerve damage can be trauma, infection, systemic or metabolic problems and exposure to toxins.
   
   Some of the most common causes of systemic and metabolic problems are:

   diabetes

   cancer
   nutritional deficiencies: such as vitamin B12, iron, folic acid
   excessive alcohol consumption
   multiple myeloma
   uremia (kidney failure)
