Distribution:

產地﹕

Found in all China. Main production areas are Qin Ling mountain areas of the south western part Shaanxi and  also Jiangsu. Production of Qin Ling is about 60% of all the production of China.  The small meng chong is mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi area which produce a smaller amount. Other provinces like Guangxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hunan, Hubei, Shanxi, Henan, Liaoning also produce meng chong.

中 國 南、北均產 。主產 于陝 西 南部的秦 嶺 山 區 和江 蘇 一带。 主要分布于陝 西的柞水、寧 陝 、漢 陽 、安康、鎮安、佛坪等縣 市，其中柞水、寧 陝二縣產 量最大，質 量 最優 ，是大虻虫的传统產 區。陝 西秦 嶺 一带虻虫的最高年產 量为5000千克，占全 國 總 產  量的60％。小虻虫主產 于内蒙、山西一带，貨 量較 少 。廣 西、四川、浙江、江 蘇 、湖南、湖北、山西、河南、遼 寧 等地亦產 。(資料來源：張景岳中醫藥研究中心)

藥理﹕

1. In animal studies it proves that the decoction of meng chong can improve the volume of blood circulation in blood vessels, and can increase the contraction of the heart of frogs in vitro. It can protect the heart from damage of lack of oxygen caused by the posterior pituitary function. It can protect the tissues from lack of oxygen.

動物試驗証明：

1. 虻虫水煎液可增強血管流量、離體蛙心的收縮輻度，對腦垂體後葉素所致急性心肌缺血有防護作用。對組織缺氧有保護作用。

3. 促纖溶作用而防止淤血

4. 降低血清 甲狀腺素 (T4) 的作用。【1】

用於血滯經閉，跌仆傷痛, 癥瘕 (子宫肌瘤、卵巢囊腫 、子宫内膜異 位症、乳腺增生及慢性盆腔炎性包塊 等)、跌打傷痛等症，

處方舉例﹕

(1) Name of Formula: di huang tong jin wan (Fu Ren Liang Fang)

Application: difficulty in menses, postpartum lochiorrhea, pain in the middle abdomen.

Composition: shu di huang, shui zhi, meng chong, tao ren.

(2) Name of Formula: shui zhi tang

See: Thrombocytosis, (excess platelets)

(3) da huang zhe chong wan

(1) 地黃通經丸 《婦人良方》 ﹕ 治月經不利，或產後惡露不盡，臍腹作疼。熟地﹐ 水蛭,﹐ 虻蟲﹐ 桃仁。  水 煎 服 。

(2) 水蛭 湯﹕ 治 療 血 小 板 過 多 。水蛭  18 克 ( 打 ), 虻 蟲 9 克 ，地 蟞 蟲 9克 ，桃 仁 9克 ，丹 皮 9克 ，赤 芍 15克 ，大 生 地 15克 ，生蒲 黃  15克 (包 ), 生 五 靈 脂 15克 。 水 煎 服 。
