Anti-aging effect. [1]

Hepatoprotective effects: tu si zi20% water decoction on carbon tetrachloride injury in mice: providing orally 50g crude drug / kg body weight, can lower the blood lactate, pyruvate, and SGPT decline, and can increase glycogen adrenal ascorbic acid significantly, and shows the protective activity of damaged liver. [2]

Yang and enhance sexual vitality role: 20% the tu si zi water decoction of 0.5ml /  day orally, corrected yang deficiency symptoms in mice. Culture medium containing the tu si zi water decoction of three concentration 0.5,1. O and 2.O% can enhance the drosophila (fruit flies) sexual vitality. [2]

Increase the role of non-specific resistance: tu si zi water decoction can extend swimming time of mice, enhanced hypoxic tolerance under normal pressure, improve its non-specific resistance. [2]

保肝作用：菟絲子20%的水煎劑給四氯化碳損傷小鼠灌胃，50g生藥/kg體重，能使血液中增加的乳酸、丙酮酸及 SGPT 下降，而使下降的肝糖元和腎上腺抗壞血酸上升，有顯著的保護肝損傷活性。[2]

助陽和增強性活力作用：20%菟絲子水煎劑 0.5ml/隻/天 灌胃，對陽虛小鼠的症狀有一定的恢復作用。用含菟絲子水煎劑的培養基培養，在0.5、1.O和2.O%三個濃度下均能提高果蠅的性活力。[2]

增加非特異性抵抗力作用：菟絲子水煎劑，能延氏小鼠負重游泳時間，增強小鼠在常壓下的耐缺氧能力，提高其非特異性抵抗力。[2]

其它作用：菟絲子尚具有抗腫瘤、抗病毒、抗炎、抗不育、致瀉、及抑制中樞神經系統的作用。[2]

化学成分：

1. For improving sperm quality: wu zi yan zong wan

2. For treatment of threatened abortion: Prescription:  tu zi zi , xu duan, e jiao, dang shen, bai zhu. Treated 110 patients. Take herb once a day for 10 days. Effective rate: 96.36%

3. For treatment of impotence: tu si zi, she chuang zi,  wu wei zi, equal amount, make into powder and mix with cooked honey. Make  into pills like size of soybean. Take 30 pills each time, 3 times a day. [3]
